Unfortunately, there are no truly effective all-natural preservatives. Until we find one, we rely on the safest possible synthetic alternatives: phenoxyethanol and chlorphenesin. These have no suspected human health risks, and are never tested on animals. Some of our classic Burt's Bees® products also use fragrance—but we are extra-careful to ensure our fragrances are free of phthalates and petrochemicals.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eYet we know we can do more.
